The “weight” is over. Get the Lead Out is back and better than ever! Join us for our first outing by removing derelict fishing gear from the Maumee River on June 20th, 9am-12pm at the Riverview Shelter House at SideCut Metropark. This summer, we have over three miles of the Maumee River between Perrysburg and Maumee to cover and need your help. This program is great for volunteers of all ages and can be done throughout the summer season. You can schedule your own walk in the Maumee River, along its banks, over logs, through tall grasses, and over rocks collecting lead, line, and trash that have gotten snagged on rocks, branches, and grass. Just last year, PCS volunteers collected over 30 pounds of lead sinkers from this 3-mile stretch of river and this year, we hope to do more. Still need convincing this program is great for you? This video will take you up close to what it’s really like.
Join us for our first public outing, June 20th, 9am-12pm at the Riverview Shelter House at SideCut Metropark in conjunction with Sierra Club. More scheduled outings will be organized for later in the season. These events are open to everyone; all experience levels welcome. But you don’t need to wait for us. Sign up your friends, family or volunteer group and go on your own time! As the water levels drop, we should be able to get further in the river for more lead and line collection. This is just one more way we can protect our precious river.
